“Laos: A Forgotten Treasure of the Khmer Civilization”

In 2008, a farmer in Nong Hua Thong, Savannakhet Province, accidentally discovered a treasure weighing 24 kilograms, consisting of gold, silver and precious stones. Kept under lock and key for more than a decade, this exceptional heritage was entrusted in 2023 to an international team of researchers for its first-ever study. This documentary takes us behind the scenes of their investigation, from laboratory analyses to archaeological excavations, and on to the sacred sites of Vat Phou and Lingaparvata in Champassak. The screening will be introduced by David Bazin and Vilasak Phongsawat (EFEO / WHSO), followed by a discussion with the speakers and Michel Lorrillard (EFEO-Vientiane).
